GIVEAWAY: Bamboo Tee and Hoodie/Board Shorts Sewing Pattern by Karen and Shelly
I’m excited to be able to introduce to you our giveaway hosts for today, Karen LePage of One Girl Circus (also today’s guest blogger) and Shelly Figueroa of Figgy’s Studio, co-owners of “Pattern by Figgy’s”:
At the age of five, Karen pestered her mom enough to get her own sewing machine and hasn’t stopped sewing since. She works as an independent marketing consultant and graphic designer when she isn’t sewing, drafting patterns, or shopping for fabric. Her son Peter has Asperger’s Syndrome and Sensory Integration Disorder, so she has been making and designing clothing that creates comfort for little ones for the last 12 years (she shares a little more about that in her post below). She is the creator of “One Girl Circus” & “One Boy Circus” clothing lines and currently resides in Southeast Michigan.
Also an early seamstress, Shelly learned how to sew from her mom at age six and had a passion for fashion and design even then. In 2002 she started a clothing business from her home called “Figgy’s Kids” which later evolved into an online shop. In 2008 she created “Patterns by Figgy’s” so she could share her patterns with others. She now co-owns “Patterns by Figgy’s” with Karen and they are working on the Fall 2010 line. She currently resides in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two boys.
Karen and Shelly are giving away a pre-release copy of one of their new patterns today along with a bamboo raglan tee! Let’s hear from Karen:
Boys are sensitive. Any mom who has held a bawling toddler-fella knows that boys are very sensitive, emotionally. In addition to that precious emotional nature, our boys are sensitive physically. As children are learning to deal with all that surrounds them, they don’t have a mature ability to filter out that niggling discomfort that an adult might write on a mental list to “not wear these next time” or “cut that tag out when I get home.” Instead, they show their discomfort immediately; in ways that aren’t always effectively communicative (or appreciated by surrounding adults!)
I believe that comfortable clothing and surroundings can make all the difference in the energy a child can direct towards their imagination and activities. That is why all of my clothing is created with the extra-sensitive kid in mind. A few extra steps in constructing clothing not only makes the garments wear better over time, but frees a child to put all their focus on the experience at hand.
I have recently joined forces with Shelly (the creator of Patterns by Figgy’s) to develop clothing patterns. In all our patterns we include illustrated steps for “comfort finishes” for you to use on our garments and hopefully apply to other patterns you already use and love!
We have just added our first boy pattern and we are excited to share with all of you! The “Beach Bum Hoodie & Board Shorts” is a pattern for a complete outfit to begin the Spring in style. The pattern will be available in two size groups: 18mos/2T/4/6 and 8/10/12/14.
As a thank you to all supporters of small business, handmade, and boys we are giving away a copy of this pattern along with a Bamboo Raw-edged Raglan Tee from “One Boy Circus” (your choice of size 2-8) to one lucky winner. You can enter to win the giveaway on either Shelly’s blog or Karen’s blog (or both blogs) by posting a comment. We will draw a winner from the entries (up to two entries per person – one on each blog) on Monday, March 1.
But wait, there’s more! Everybody can win, because Patterns by Figgy’s is also having a Pre-Order sale for readers of Celebrate the Boy month!! If you order your Beach Bum Hoodie and Board Shorts pattern before March 12th you will receive 15% off when you mention “Rae” in your order. Please email Karen & Shelly at patternsbyfiggys@live.com to place your order.
Thanks so much Karen and Shelly! I can’t wait to see the rest of the patterns. What a great preview, and thanks so much for your generous giveaway! Readers, please remember that while your comments here are always appreciated, to be entered the giveaway to win the pattern/tee prize package please leave your comments on Karen and Shelly’s blogs!

Thank you! This blog post will be advertised on CraftCrave in the Handcraft category today (look for timestamp: [23 Feb 01:00pm GMT]).
So sad that the "Celebrate the Boy" month is ending!
Such a great pattern, and from two wonderful women. I have known Karen ever since my "Olivia" was born, and her "Ella". We have been internet buddies, and I have seen her progress, and her amazing talent and drive. I could not be happier for her. I also know that her patterns are probably perfect down to every detail. She is an incredible seamstress. Looking forward to more patterns coming our way.
What a great month of celebrating the boy!! THanks! And what a great pattern & hoodie… I want it for my two boys.

I'm going to be one sad girl when boy month is done. Winning just might lift my mood some.
Fabulous – I am a big believer in comfortable clothes for any child – my little guy needs an update from the t-shirt and sweatpants ensemble he wears every day.
Cute. Boy ideas are greatly needed.
I LOVE it! I will be sure to check out these patterns and hopefully apply some of that to my clothing. I can't tell you how many things I've made that look cool, but turn out itchy or uncomfortable.
That hoodie is great. I'm always on the eye out for original boy patterns.
Cute pattern! I'm a grandma always on the look out for cute things for my 3 grand sons.
Hope to win!
Lynda
fingers crossed! Wishing every month was boys month.
Love the pattern–so useful!
I would love to win this!
I have been having a lot of fun reading your wonderful blog, thank you for it and the giveaway.
So cute! I so hope I win!
Please count me in. Boy patterns are so hard to come by, and I would love to win this for my little baby boy!
Great look. Nice boy patterns are so hard to find!
This looks great!
I'm a first time Mommy of a sweet little boy. I have been sewing for (ever!) a long time, but I have very few boys patterns! These are really great. I'll have to pay attention for more from these two!
HI Everyone! Due to overwhelming response, we are going to go ahead and giveaway TWO packages!!
Check our blogs today for the winners. Plus, don't worry if you mistakenly entered the contest here instead of on our own blogs, we went ahead and added you to the pool of entries anyway
