Guest Tutorial: Scavenger Bag by Steffanie
Here’s another fantastic bag for boys that I know you’ll love! Steffanie from sew grown is here today with a great scavenger bag tutorial for all those little boys who love to collect trinkets and treasures. I love the piping detail on this bag and know my little guy could come up with all sorts of treasures to put in it!

Guest Tutorial: Monster Art Tote by Marigold
When we were collecting ideas for boy posts a couple months ago, I kept noticing that there were so many great ideas for bags and totes for boys. Girls get a free pass with purses, but why shouldn’t boys have something nice to tote their belongings around in? We don’t usually think about ways to make boy accessories creative, but I think the next group of contributors you’ll see here on Made By Rae will show that you can! So today and tomorrow I’m going to feature a few fantastic bag and tote tutorials for boys so that you can make one for your boy too. If you’ve made a bag or tote for a boy, please put it in the Celebrate the…

Elliot’s "Zebra" shirt
I know it’s just starting for all of you, but Celebrate the Boy has been on the brain over here for a long time. For the last month I’ve dedicated a good portion of my sewing time to just making clothing for Elliot. I love how sewing for a child makes you spend time thinking about them. For one thing it’s made me realize how very little baby is left of him.

Guest post: Liesl Gibson of Oliver+S
How exciting is this? Today the amazingly talented Liesl Gibson (sewing pattern and fabric designer, blogger, and creator of Oliver+S) has agreed to talk to us about sewing for boys and how details can really make boys’ clothing special! Liesl will also be giving away a set of three boys patterns from the the Oliver + S collection!
I had the pleasure of meeting Liesl last summer at the Weekend Sewing Workshop in Vermont and it was so much fun watching her work and learning from her! Turns out we went to the same college and her parents knew my aunt and uncle in grad school once upon a time. Small world! I hope you all…
Introducing: My Boy!
Since many of you are new here this month I realized you might not know who my little boy is! So here’s a few pics to introduce you to my little guy, Elliot, who will be four in March. This month you’ll get to see all the stuff I’ve been making for him! [and most of you know this already, but I'm a little sensitive about this so I'll repeat it: Please do not copy/repost any pictures of Elliot. Thanks!]
Guest post: A boy fabric roundup by see kate sew!
One of the biggest barriers to sewing for boys is that frankly, most fabric prints are designed for girls. It makes sense since people who sew are most often female, but it can be frustrating when it comes time to sew for the boy. While I realize that everyone has a slightly different idea of what “boy” means when it comes to fabric selection, let’s be honest, it’s nearly impossible to take a large floral print fabric and turn it into a convincing boys garment. The fabric industry seems to have come around recently; I love that so many recent fabric collections have been intentionally designed for boys clothing or quilts. Even so, there’s SO many fabrics out there that work for boys, sometimes you…

A whole month of BOY starts next Tuesday!
Just a little reminder…we’re going to start Celebrating the BOY next Tuesday, February 15! Yaaaay *does Kermit arms* We’ve got an amazing lineup of fantastic contributors who will be talking about sewing for boys and providing great ideas and inspiration for sewing for that boy in your life. It’ll knock your socks off! We KNOW boys get the shaft when it comes to sewing and we plan to rectify that with a solid month of boy posts, tutorials, roundups, and giveaways, so make sure you come over often to see what’s going on.
