Gemma Tank sewing pattern

As we put the finishing touches on the Gemma tank sewing pattern (update: now available here), I thought I’d share some photos of two tanks I made for Melissa, my ridiculously good-looking studio assistant. Doesn’t she look amazing!?

Pattern notes: These two tanks show the updated (and slightly narrower) shoulder that I mentioned in the Chambray Gemma post, just in case you are interested, with the gold tank showing the higher jewel neckline, and the peach tank showing the lower scoop neckline.

Fabric notes: The gold tank, which could use a bit more pressing (oops!), was made with solid Cambridge lawn from Robert Kaufman. I really love working with Cambridge lawns, which are really lightweight and have an almost silky sheen to them, and RK has a ton of color options now as well. You can see a few of the other colors they sent me in this pic. The peach triangle print was designed by Leah Duncan for Art Gallery Fabrics. Art Gallery’s quilting cotton is also a bit on the silky side and is smoother and a little lighter than some of the other quilting cottons on the market, so it works well for a summer tank.

Pattern coming soon, I promise!!!

  1. Firstly, your model is so beautiful! I just had to say that 🙂

And thank you for the picture of one made with Art Gallery quilting cotton. I just got some fat quarter bundles of theirs for little projects and have been wondering how it would drape in a garment. I’m thinking I need to go order some larger cuts.

    Also, I’m dying waiting. ha!

    Thank you!

  2. Firstly, I was so amazed to find a garment pattern with the name of Gemma. My name is Gemma and it is rare to see this name in print. I personally do not know any Gemmas. I love the tank because of the darts and the flare and that it is made of woven cotton. I would love to see this tank with sleeves as I cannot wear sleeveless garments . Thank you if you reply.

    • Hi Gemma!!

So fun, do you pronounce the your name with a “J” sound or a hard “G” like “golf?” I’m curious…we keep debating about it over here.

Thanks for your feedback about the sleeves — I will definitely experiment with this and see if I can come up with some good tutorials for adding sleeves!!

      🙂

  3. Love this tank, Rae. Will the pattern include a sleeve option? There are only about one or two day in the year I can wear a tank here in Germany. My lovely Washi Dress does not get worn often because of that and that’s a pity!

  4. Love this tank! Especially that mustard yellow color. Can you say what size you made for Melissa? Thanks!
