Quick Trip to NYC

The weekend before last Mr Rae and I took a quick weekend trip to New York City for our anniversary. It’s always tough finding a good place to go in February for just a couple of days, but we knew even if the weather was awful (it wasn’t), New York would be fun. We’ve both been there a number of times before but it’s usually been for a conference or workshop, so neither of us had ever done much of anything “touristy” on previous visits. We spent one day at MoMA and saw the Lion King for the first time (I know. How late am I to that party?), and the next day at the Met. We went to the top of the Empire State Building, walked through Grand Central, and make a quick stop at Purl (of course!!). We ate some really good meals (we had dinner at the National, Blue Ribbon, and Hudson Clearwater), and of course savoring a long breakfast with coffee and a copy of the Atlantic is nothing short of luxury when you have three kids at home. The first day it was so warm and lovely that we even walked around Central Park. I think my favorite place we visited was the Met. I just couldn’t believe the scope of the collections there. Just ridiculously impressive; we only spent a half day there and I really hope to go back again. You’d need weeks to see everything. Of course we were happy to get back to our three favorite monsters, but it sure was fun to get away!!

  1. If you go again I suggest a trip out to Brooklyn. The Botanic Gardens, Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Museum are all great and right next to each other (Grand Army Plaza stop on subway) and Park Slope is beautiful. My old stomping grounds where I lived when my kids were little. ❤️ I wrote a couple of blog posts with pictures last year called A Visit to the Old Neighborhood. This post makes me want to hop on a train and go to the Met!

    • Those are great suggestions!! I did get over to Park Slope and Prospect Park (my cousin lived there) a few years ago in the fall, and it was really lovely. The Botanic Gardens are definitely on my list, will add the Brooklyn Museum, too!! Thanks, Julie!

  2. Oh how wonderful! NYC is so wonderful, I always feel such energy and inspiration there. I would ditch my friends (politely) and go to the Met and Guggenheim by myself to soak it in properly. I like sushi in Soho at Nagomi (not fancy), and this curious little shop called Evolution (in Soho) is still on my mind.
Glad you had a breather, happy anniversary! xo

  3. Fatty and I love NYC. On our trip this past summer, we really enjoyed the Whitney and walking the High Line. We also like Nashville for a weekend getaway. It helps that it is only 2.5 hours down the road!

    • Oh yes!! Loved the High line when we went in spring, too!! I really want to make it to the Whitney. Next time!!

Hope you and Fatty and the girls are well, Erin!!

      xoxo,Rae

    • Love the Highline!! Didn’t make it last time, but next time for sure! Will put Strand on the list, too! 🙂
