Tsuru and Geranium

More Tsuru - 01

I’m so excited to reveal a project I’ve had in the works now for a couple of months: combining the Geranium Dress Sewing Pattern with all of the Tsuru fabrics designed by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Cloud 9! This has been a fun collaboration between me, Karen LePage, and Rashida Coleman-Hale.

When Michelle of Cloud 9 Fabrics asked me whether I’d be interested in getting the Geranium Dress together with the Tsuru line, I said GIDDYUP LET’S DO IT and immediately started plotting and scheming. Which fabrics should go together with what look?

I loved the challenge of showcasing an entire line of fabric — Tsuru includes 12 different prints — with just one pattern. If any sewing pattern could do it, it would be Geranium, with so many different variations. The result of my scheming is eight unique Tsuru-Geranium Dresses.

Just two of the eight dresses are shown here; I’ll reveal the others in subsequent posts. I just couldn’t fit all of them in one post…there were too many gorgeous photos!!

I would have been a crazy woman to try to sew all eight dresses, take photos of each of them, and blog about it all myself (in the middle of Celebrate the BOY, no less), so luckily Karen LePage was able to sew my ideas into reality. Always delegate, is my motto! And as you will see Karen did not disappoint; her construction is impeccable, and they look absolutely perfect, down to the little details, like adding vintage buttons.

Tsuru is widely available in shops right now. The fabrics used for the dresses in this post are these four (see the entire collection here on the Cloud 9 website):

The pattern (for both dresses, of course!) is the Geranium Dress; as both a sleeveless dress with patch pockets and as “view b” with a tunic length, accomplished by adding a contrast band to the top-length skirt.

I hope you’re excited to see more Tsuru dresses and meet a new friend of Clementine’s who will join her tomorrow in the photos!

Oh! and I can’t not mention this exciting announcement from Cloud 9 last week! I’m so happy to have been able to collaborate with Cloud 9 on a fabric collection too!! It’s due to release later this summer (incidentally, I had no idea the fabric design thing was even a remote possibility when I agreed to do this Tsuru project. Yes, that’s really how fast it happened. Crazy). Anyway, it was so fun, and I can’t wait until I can show you the new collection!

  4. These are wonderful. This post got me to finally purchase the Geranium pattern. I’d been waiting to buy it until I’d cleared a few things off my plate, but I think I’m shoving those aside for a bit longer instead! πŸ™‚ And a huge congratulations on the fabric line —- that is so awesome!

  5. Ah! Absolutely cannot wait to see your fabric collection. I know they are probably going to be designed with your children in mind, but apparently I like children’s fabrics for my adult dresses haha.

  6. Absolutely adorable…all of them. Funny – I made my first Geranium a couple of weeks ago using Rashidas beautiful 1000 Cranes fabric in indigo. And congrats on your fabric line – can’t wait to see more

    • Hi Trine,

I suspect you’ll see something similar to your geranium then soon on the blog… πŸ˜‰

      So fun!

  7. Whoopie! Great news! Congrats, I’m sure your fabric line will be brilliant. And though I love your dress patterns I do hope that you designed a boy-ish line… some selfish hoping as I have two little sons myself :o)))

  8. Oh…what a dream! Rae, this pattern is just the sweetest. I made a version last week for my 5 year-old that just made me (and her) so incredibly happy that I felt this welling of gratefulness. And I love this line, it pairs so well with the Geranium, too!

  9. what a fun idea! I can’t wait to see what else you came up with. I’m loving the Geranium pattern btw. So far I’ve made two versions and have two more in the pipeline

  10. Wow! What beautiful dresses!! And a super gigantic congratulations on the fabric collection! How exciting!! I cannot wait to see what you come up with as, of course, everything you create is gorgeous!!!
