Halloween

This year Hugo decided to be a black cat and informed me he wanted me to dress up as a witch, to go with his costume. Knowing full well the desire to have coordinating costumes with his mother at Halloween won’t last but a fleeting moment, I went all in on a witch outfit. I found a black wig at target, borrowed a hat from a friend, wore a black bathrobe and top, and dug out my green Cleo maxi skirt.

I bought most of Hugo’s accessories, although I did sew him a black tail that I stitched to the waistband of his (target) leggings. I wasn’t going to have enough time to knit him a kitty hat, and since it usually gets pretty cold here for Halloween, this knitted set and paw mitts that I found online worked out just fine.

Would it have been cooler to make him a hat and cowl and paw mitts? Sure. But I can't do everything.

After he decided he wanted to wear his Rainbow Flashback Tee, we pulled out his rainbow Baby Legs, and he became a “Black Rainbow Kitty.” It was super cute how into character he got - he really enjoyed baring his “claws” and cuddling up against me and meowing.

You will notice that pics of my older two kiddos are notably absent from this post. That’s because I am respecting their wishes not to post photos of them online. I’ve been asking them for permission before posting any pics of them for a number of years; in the past year or so they’ve started saying “no” more, and I totally understand that.

However, I did post old photos of them to our chalkboard wall in a retrospective collage piece I’m calling “Halloween Year by Year.”

I spent a Saturday morning a few weeks ago searching for and printing out past year’s Halloween photos with my little bucket photo printer and then taped them up to the wall. Since we eat at that table, it’s been really fun to look at and talk about the different costumes they’ve worn over the years at dinner.

PS. See more Halloween photos of our family from years past!
