I love how much they love this

We put up the Christmas tree last weekend. It was such a great weekend. We didn’t go ANYWHERE. We did NO SHOPPING. We just stayed at home. We didn’t even make a turkey for Thanksgiving Day, just a roasted chicken because it was the four of us. Though I did make little mini-apple pies, that was fun.

Every year gets better and better with kids, I tell you. They are more fun, more verbal (though being more opinionated goes right along with that). Their excitement over putting up the Christmas decorations was amazing this year. We put on the Christmas carols, some Herb Alpert (this version of Winter Wonderland is my all-time favorite, by the way. YOU’RE WELCOME!), and they went crazy.

They don’t seem to able to both smile in the same picture yet though. That will be nice someday.

    • It was all part of a ginormous “Martha Stewart for Kmart” purchase I made about 8 years ago…included the tree, ornaments, the tree skirt, and the garlands.

You could TOTALLY make a garland like this from felt circles or paper punches with a sewing machine or needle and thread. Would be so cool!!

  1. Trade you trees. Mine’s green. You’ll love it. I need yours. Also, mine are 8 and 10 and I’m still waiting for them to both smile in a photo. But their excitement about decorating the tree is getting better every year. In fact this year they almost did it all themselves. I need to train them how to set up the lights outside…

  2. Can I just say that this sounds like the most PERFECT day? I’m hoping that we get to do a little something similar this weekend.
And man, those pics of your kids are cute!!

  3. Rae, I heart your description of the kids and their verbal abilities. Spot on! I’m right with you, except a couple years behind (mine are 4, 2, and 2 [twins]). We’re in a tiny rental right now and won’t be putting up a tree this time, but I hope next year, they can be all excited about it.

  4. The last picture is so awesome…they look a little sad that there isn’t more to do to decorate the tree. I love when little kids are that excited about Christmas. One day my granddaughter will be excited about Christmas (she just turned a year old).

  5. Look at how big they are. No more baby faces. Sigh. Part of sharing a blog is having total strangers comment on the growth of your kids.

I have tree envy. Had major discussion with four close girlfriends last week about live vs. artificial. I cannot believe how hands down everyone LOVES their fakies. Now to wait for a badass after Christmas sale to purchase because I am not going to buy one at the current prices. I have my eyes set on a 9 footer. At the price they want I’ll request my grandchildren to bury me with it because it better last that long.

    • oh my word sascha you always make me fall off my chair. TOO FUNNY!!! The mental picture of a casket with a big fake tree in it sends me into fits.

and it’s funny, for a few years the white tree was TOTALLY tacky, and now it’s become super hip all of the sudden. No reason. So now I love it. For awhile I was just putting it up because it was easier than going out to get a tree, but now I heart it dearly and am v sad that it’s becoming yellow and gross.
      :)

PS You are not a TOTAL stranger. :)

  6. Oh my goodness … just bought the Christmas album, and it is AMAZING! Thanks for the recommendation. I really needed something to spice up the Christmas music collection this year. I love the way it gets my kids bopping around.

  7. Well, aren’t you amazing, once again! It’s all about making those memories and your photos are so sweet! Of course, like everyone else, I now want a white tree….can’t even find a green one here in China, though!
Also, thanks for the reminder to load my Ipad with some holiday fare! Everyone has an imprint of the one from their childhood happy days! Mine is Harry Simeone Chorale, I believe, and Home Alone Soundtrack and Mariah Carey…and..and….
Bless Your Buttons, Rae and Family

  8. I wish we could have our tree up now but our toddler probably wont allow it so we have to wait until the 15th :-(.
You made me laugh but sad because i was just complaining that the kids dont look at the same time on pictures. They are 2 years old and 5 months old. You gave me no hope for my picture future haha
