What I made in 2014: Hugo!

I’m just cracking myself up over here with this one. I MADE A BABY THIS YEAR! This week my blog feed (Bloglovin is my favorite way to read blogs now, I love the daily email digest) is loaded with sewing blogs posting their “what I made in 2014” roundups. So I started to look for projects that I’d sewn this past year to maybe do a similar post, something like my 2013 or 2012 end-of-year roundups (which, by the way, are both quite impressive and started to make me feel a little bad about this year), and then started to realize hmmmm…why was I less productive, what DID I do this year? OH YES THAT’S RIGHT I MADE A BABY. And then I realized it’s been forever since I posted any Hugo pics. So without further ado, my big “project” of 2014…HUGO!

Truly though, I can’t believe that the last time I posted a monthly Hugo pic he was three months old! He is now 9.5 months old. UM WHERE DID THAT HALF YEAR GO?!? I would also like to know how other fecund bloggers have managed to post month-by-month photos of their babies, seriously, because it is ridiculously hard. I’m starting to suspect they just take ONE photo, put it through a magic Photoshop-baby-aging-filter, and then set it to autopost each month. So let’s start where I left off and see what he looked like at 4 months:

OK. So definitely not the BEST baby-propping skills here. And then Clementine stepped into the photos so that was the end of that…

Here’s what he looked like at 5 months:

I want to say more about this guy, how easy and happy he is, how he is at the bottom of the percentiles for weight so we keep having to go back to the Dr for weight checks ARRRG, how he just got over a month of chest colds and croup that made me sick with worry, how his brother and sister just think he’s the bees knees and how much he lights up when they are around…but if I try to be comprehensive I’m never going to get this post finished, and then it will be ten months, so I’m just going to post this thang so you can enjoy the pics. Let me leave you with another favorite, Hugo in his Halloween costume:

GAAAAH! I know I am hopelessly biased but I just think he is SO. stinking. CUTE!! Sorry that’s probably really annoying. The baby lobster costume just cracks me up.

Please do not pin or repost pictures of Hugo — the one exception is that I don’t mind if you pin the mosaic (1st image). Thanks!

  1. This is my favorite 2014 roundup yet. Baby Hugo is adorable and your year mirrors mine, though I made Baby Henry instead. I love your blog posts as of late – it’s so refreshing! Thank you!

  2. He’s the best project of all! You created something (someone!) awesome in 2014! And by the way, I am insanely jealous that you have that fabulous chair in so many colors.

  3. Ohforcryin’outloud- this baby is just TOO CUTE! I am NOT biased as I have 2 of my very own but yeah, he’s adorable:)
And I personally love the 5 month pic where the light glistens just right off the string of drool from his wittle lip to his chest:)

  4. Hi Rae
He is the cutest boy ever (I am allowed to say that as my two are girls:-)). Some unsolicited advice in case you don’t get enough of it: Don’t worry too much about the weight, he seems to be so happy and healthy. My two (twin) girls were always off the bottom of the chart for weight and off the top of the chart for height and still they are healthy, normal, happy children.
I just want to wish you and your family an equally happy and successful year 2015 as 2014 was and want to say that I enjoy reading your blog immensely.
    Best regards
    Barbara

  5. Wow is he ever cute!!
Is it just me or are the pictures with the white furry cushion vaguely reminiscent of Bjork’s swan dress from the Oscars that one time?

  6. He’s in the bottom percentiles for weight?!? But look at those cheeks, those rolls, that smile! Clearly he is far from wasting away. Be proud, you made a whole lot of adorable this year!

  7. He is a cutie! Pffft to those damned weight charts–and the head size ones too. Number 1 grandson has been fighting those “standards” for 3 years now. Dad is 5’8″ and weighs 120 on a good day,,,,Poppa on Dad’s side is 5’10” and weighs 125 on a really good day,,,Nonna (that’s me) is 5’4″ and weighs 92–everyday,,and Dad’s sister is 5’2″ and weighs 92 on a good day. See a pattern here Doc? Makes us all crazy,,,but makes his Momma worry. The head thing? He is the first baby born in 20 years without a C-sec because of the family’s enormous heads! Keep doin’ what you’re doing Rae–he looks happy & healthy to me! (And thanks for sharing him with us!)

  8. He is precious! Growing up way too fast. Love his hair. You did a great job last year by finishing your project! LOL.

  9. I also cannot believe he is more than nine months. He is so cute!! Um… why topless though? Is that one of those things you didn’t have time for? I am just kidding! I love your Hugo pics!

  10. That last 7 month photo? And most of the 6 month ones? That face reminds me of your Elliot (particularly in the Zoolander photoshoot- one of my favorite things of all time, but I digress) SO MUCH!!! 🙂 Super cute!!!

  11. Very Cute Love the gerber baby look! Have you looked at the world health organization charts as opposed to the U.S. charts

  12. Thank you for this post! I made a lot of quilts in 2014 since I spent a good chunk of the fall off on maternity leave waiting for my twins to arrive. I suspect that when I go to make a mosaic of my quilts for 2015, there won’t be much material to work with! This post is a good reminder (in advance) that not every special, important thing we make gets blogged about. Hugo is adorable… not like you needed me to tell you that, proud mama!
P.S. My little darlings spent their Christmas day sporting flannel Big Butt Baby Pants! 🙂

  13. What a fun post! Made me LOL, and yes HUGO is stinking CUTE. Where did the time go?, I’m still asking that question. My baby boy is 6feet 4inches and 33 years, yet to me, I can see him like he was back in 1981. It’s a MOM thing:-)

  14. Aw man so adorable! My little guy will be 9 months in just a couple of days and I’m freaking out because I know that means in just a few months he’ll be 1! It’s funny, because I was looking at these photos and thinking “Wow, he looks so much bigger than my Elliot!” (because I try not to compare my kids to other kids but it just sort of happens sometimes…both of them have had issues gaining weight) and then I read that he’s at the bottom of the weight charts! But to me he looks so cute and roly poly! But yeah – those weight checks are stressful and ugh really make you second guess yourself!
