Hot Sauce Apron

With Father’s Day approaching I thought I’d share this hot sauce apron I made for Mr Rae, since like most of you I’ve been socialized to think that grilling, golfing, beer, and boating are all appropriate Father’s Day topics. This is clearly the fault of the Father’s Day card section.

Aprons make nice Father’s Day gifts, but they are even better ANYTIME GIFTS, since people who cook spill on themselves ALL YEAR ROUND and MANY ARE NOT EVEN FATHERS. But if I had to guess I’d say it’s probably something to do with the beginning of grilling season coinciding with Father’s Day here in the US. Anyway, I did not make this apron for Father’s Day; this was actually a Christmas gift.

Mr Rae cooks way more than me and is damn good at it too. But he does spill on himself a lot, so aprons are handy unless he remembers to take his Zoom Shirt off before he starts. We have another apron like this, but it was too small for him, so I traced it and added longer straps and some width and found some D-rings to make the neck strap adjustable.

I custom-ordered the hot sauce fabric from Spoonflower (this is their canvas substrate, and I only needed 1 yard for this apron). If you search for “hot sauce” on Spoonflower you get a lot of results, but I thought this one was the cutest. You can also order this print as a wallpaper, which could be really exciting.
