Clementine's Garnet Top

Clementine fits into the MBR adult pattern size range now that she’s in high school (yes. that’s right, my baby is in high school…*sobs*), and she’s enjoyed being a fit model for me for the last few patterns I’ve worked on. When she was in junior high I had to do length adjustments on the pattern pieces as she was a bit shorter than our pattern draft height (5’5-5’6), but she now fits a size B or C quite well without any adjustments.

She was more than happy to model this purple linen Garnet sample that I made in her size. I also photographed and recorded all of the steps when I made this one for the Garnet Sewalong (coming in January!!), so you’ll see more of this one when the sewalong goes live.

I must say, I think she looks really great in this purple hue. Also: this outfit inspired me to wear my Garnet tops with my cutoff jean shorts last summer - so cute!

Some shots of the back neckline - I really do love that square neckline shape, especially in the linen fabric.

I found this purple grid linen online at Ewe Fibers - they’re out of the mini check now, but they still have some of the larger windowpane linen in a few colors, including a deep blue hue that would be absolutely gorgeous for Garnet.

It wouldn’t be a photoshoot with Clementine without a bit of hamming for the camera…

view B with mods:

This is view b of the pattern, but I skipped the tucks which are included with view b. Instead, I cut the front/back and sleeve pattern pieces at the “cut here for view a” length lines.* It’s super easy, plus skipping the tucks makes the top a bit quicker to sew.

*If you cut the view b length but still skip sewing the tucks, you’ll get a longer Garnet, which gives it more of a tunic look if you prefer it longer.

The Garnet pattern will be available in digital format in my shop soon. Find all of the charts, materials list, and preview posts for Garnet over at the Garnet page.
