Cozy Moss jacket for Fall
This has been my clothing item of choice for the past month, morning noon and night, I’ve even slept in it. I was drawn to all four of the Fableism waffle woven fabrics as soon as they arrived at Marengo in early September (note: Marengo just launched their online shop, but this particular fabric is not yet on their site), and TBH had quite a bit of difficulty narrowing down my choice to just this colorway (“sangria”). You can see the other colors in that link, above.
We are headed up to the Manistee National Forest this weekend with friends to a cabin where we’ve stayed together since before our kids were born. We play board games, go for hikes, soak in the hot tub, drink lots of cider and beer, and the men all cook amazing meals. You’d better believe I’ll be taking this coat along. Literally wearing it right now. When I am writing on the blog rather than packing….uhhh, whooops!
I made this coat with a recently-purchased Moss Jacket from Helen’s Closet. I created this version of the “view a” jacket with some length added, about halfway to the view b length lines. I also had to omit the back yokes as I was short on fabric, owing to both the aforementioned mod and the waffle weave’s super-ability to shrink up in the wash which had left me short a full quarter yard. It’s OK! I solved this problem by taped together the back yoke and lower back piece and cutting them out as one piece, no bigs. You can see that in the photo above.
One other thing I will note about this fabric is that it does snag terribly on the side that has the threads woven across it which create the waffle texture. To me this is the more fun side, so I put it on the outside, but in retrospect I think it would snag far less if those threads were on the inside of the garment. They definitely have a tendency to hook onto anything with a corner or rough edge that happens to pass by, if you know what I mean. But how can you say no to that waffle texture?? It’s so soft and cozy!
FYI I already posted this make to Threadloop, which is a Ravelry-esque app for sewists where you can keep track of all your sewing makes, read reviews of sewing patterns, and see what other people are making. I’m ahead of the blog over there, so if you want, you can get sneak peaks at what I’ve been sewing there hint hint. Feel free to follow me on Threadloop and start posting your own makes — it’s free to use!
I’ve already had two people from the shop ask if they can dupe this jacket and of course I said, YES DO IT so if you decide to copy this one, do send photos. Have you made anything with this fabric? I want to see what else people are making with it!!
