Sewing for Boys Book
You might remember my preview post for this book back in February for Celebrate the BOY? Well, Sewing for Boys is finally here and I couldn't be more excited!
As far as I'm concerned, this book fills a giant hole in Craft Book Land, the obvious and extremely annoying lack of books targeted towards BOY sewing. So as someone who has noticed the void (and along with Dana of MADE, created a unique collection of boy-centric blog posts with our Celebrate the Boy series as a result), I'm so happy to see this book arrive on the scene.I'm especially excited because Sewing for Boys is written by my friends Karen and Shelly of Patterns by Figgy's, who have already have proven their talent for pattern design and sewing for boys with their fantastic line of print patterns. It's been really fun to watch over the last year as these amazing ladies poured their heart and soul (and great ideas!) into this project. So I'm honored to kick of their book tour today with a peek at this wonderful book:
Sewing for Boys is full of projects that will blow your socks off. I mean, I really can't believe how many great patterns are in this book. There's woven shirts, woven pants, knit pants, knit shirts, jackets (two!), knit projects, pajamas, and plenty of accessories (belts, hats, toy bags, blankets) to round out the entire package. The pattern packet in the front of the book includes full-size pattern sheets in sizes 12 months - size 7. And I can't get over the adorable models, how cute are these little guys?
You can buy your very own copy right here.So of course as soon as I got my hands on a copy last week I started plotting and planning Elliot's fall wardrobe, and a couple days ago during nap I decided to make something. I then proceeded to get completely stuck on which fabric/pattern to choose. I mean, I am just not good at decisions, and I literally sat in my sewing room for two hours staring at fabrics and dreaming about what to make and then nap was over. So here are my picks so far so you can tell me what you think:OK, first up, I'm loving the idea of a pair of Treasure Pocket Pants (shown below) in navy with one of these three prints as the side pocket panel. But I can't decide, should the pocket panel be the whales? The Lizzy House? The Marina? (and is that sidepanel not the most brilliant way to feature a print, by the way?)
Or maybe it would look neat in brown Essex linen with this vintage trolley print:
Next up, this Easy Linen Shirt. For this one, I was thinking a pale pale pink linen (E's SUPER-blond and looks great in pink) or maybe a darker linen...or the Heather Ross dots?
Or, if those don't float your boat, how about one of these?
Another favorite of mine is the short-sleeve raglan (one of PBF's most popular patterns, the Tee For Two, has been included in this book in both short and long sleeves). Wouldn't this be a fun combination?
And I just love the Henry shirt, with it's unique retro look. I think would be so in this combination of linen and this lightweight Art Gallery cotton:
I'm not sure this would work to combine the Melody Miller canvas with the MoMo It's a Hoot cotton, but these two prints sure look great together:
And those pajamas are so cute with the contrasting fabric, it might look great in some blue flannel with orange fabric along the neck for contrast:
