Astragal Sweater

It was love at first sight when I saw this Mad Hatter yarn at Spun last December. I bought it without a pattern in mind and then gave it to Mr Rae to give to me for Christmas, an ace move that I plan to repeat again this year. I posted a few peeks at my progress last winter and spring in my Friday Faves posts, so it seemed like a good idea to give it its own post.

The Astragal sweater pattern by Ainur Berkimbayeva was recommended to me by friend and Knitting Extraordinaire Shirley, who sent me a solid set of possible sweater patterns when I couldn’t find a sport weight pattern that matched my gauge, which always runs big (this is actually a DK sweater pattern knitted up in a sport weight). The pattern originally ran in Pom Pom magazine but is now available both in Ainur’s shop and on Ravelry.

The twisted rib peak detail at the hem and sleeves are fun to knit and also fun to look at, and the water droplet motif around the neckline is fab. Love everything about this sweater, so much so that I’m just about to cast on another one that I’m knitting along with my friend Megan with yarn we got at Squam in the swag bags (special thanks to non-knitter friend Amy for donating her skein so that we’d have sweater quantity). This will be the first time I’ve co-knit a sweater before, and I’m psyched. It’s going to be fun. Even the idea of figuring out how we are going to share the finished sweater when I live in Michigan and Megan lives in Seattle is filling me with so much joy.

PS. This Astragal looks great with these Luna pants - that yellow is a perfect match - and I also put it together with my new plaid Trillium dress a couple weekends ago at Squam and that was a great outfit too. It goes with everything (I own)!
