Sherpa Pogonip Pullover for Clementine

I currently have two spots where I regularly purchase knit fabrics online: ISee, which has been a fave for the past couple years - lots of my Citrine Cardigans made from those ISee knits. And then lately I’ve also been ordering knits from Lyrical, which has had a nice selection of sweatshirt and sweater knits. I like that both of these shops often have rib knits that match to the base fabrics (jersey or sweatshirt terry, usually), and Lyrical even has it where you can add them both to cart at the same time, spot of brilliance there.

Anyway, I signed up for the Lyrical newsletter which I knew from the start would be dangerous and sure enough they had me right away with this teddy sherpa. I showed it to Clementine along with the Pogonip pattern which had recently come out from Friday Pattern Co and she was like YES I WANT THAT.

Fast forward a couple weeks to when the fabric arrived and I nearly clogged our neighborhood sewer line and then the lint trap of my dryer washing and drying it. I then donned ye olde Hasmat Suit so I could cut it out. Just kidding. But I definitely did use a vacuum cleaner to repeatedly suck up the flying fluff during the cutting as it was like a blizzard in my dining room and then later the sewing, which was less of a low visibility situation, but still veeery linty. If you’ve ever sewn with sherpa you know exactly what I’m talking about.

As far as I can tell the pattern is not really intended for sherpa, though in my mind the design would be chefs kiss perfect for a fleece pullover. The recommended fabrics include wovens and “stable knits” which this sherpa definitely was not. And of course, true to Rae form, I thought I knew better and, of course, it came around to bite me in the ass AS IT ALWAYS DOES. It was not easy to get through all of the layers in the placket and I am not exaggerating when I say I broke two serger needles trying to get across it before I finally gave up and just used my machine for that section. Oh and welt pocket construction + sherpa definitely took every ounce of my sewing skill to execute.

Sherpa Disclaimer now over, I did really enjoy this pattern (Pogonip). It’s great, definitely recommend, 10 out of 10. I do like Chelsea’s patterns a lot and this one seems like something I would wear all of the time, especially in something other than sherpa as I will need a bit of a break before I attempt that again but I do want one for myself. And though I was tempted mightily to steal it and keep it for myself many, many times while making it, you now behold before you such a Triumph of self control, as I did eventually allow Clementine to pry it out of my claws give it to her and she’s worn it a ton so job well done I say and enormous pat on back to self as usual.

You can find the Pogonip Pullover pattern over at Friday Pattern Company, and the sherpa is no longer available but there are always new goodies coming down the line from Lyrical if you sign up for their newsletter or follow them on the ol’ ZuckerGram.
